One China? How About One People?
Military Strategist Barry Donadio devises a plan for peace to prevent hostilities between China and Taiwan with a focus on recognizing that they are “One People”. A plan for peace and a consensual unity. A plan that both nations can claim a victory. “One People” working for the positivity for all in the region and the world.
December 10th, 2024 Kent Island, Maryland. | Barry Donadio, a military strategist and former member of the United States Secret Service is calling for an immediate halt to any possibility of force being used in regard to the China/Taiwan question. Donadio says that de-escalation must occur immediately and a complete reconsideration of the issues creating tensions between China and Taiwan must occur between the leaders of China and Taiwan.
Donadio claims that today is an opportunity of a life time for Xi Jinping (President of China) and Lai Ching‑te(President of Taiwan) to become the most significant peacemakers and preservers of the “One People” in a century.
Donadio speaks of Xi Jinping (President of China) as being an extra ordinary patient leader whom is capable of achieving an everlasting peace. The entire world would like to see him achieve that goal. As for Lai Ching‑te (President of Taiwan), Donadio says that because he was a physician, he will highly value human life and can succeed in the role of being a peacemaker. Donadio says that it would take courage from each leader to take these first steps and become the framers of the rejuvenation of the “One People”. The world will praise them both for their effort.
Donadio says it will take two great leaders with extreme patients, understanding and forgiveness to achieve the “One People” solution for China and Taiwan. Each can be forever credited with saving millions of lives throught their peace efforts.
With urgency, this must happen first:
Donadio says that everything must halt and the two leaders must meet immediately, even if they don’t recognize each others status or leadership. Goodwill visits must happen by each visiting the others nation and interacting with the populace. These visits must foster forgiveness, understanding, bonding, happiness and friendship. A focus on positivity during these visits is a priority. This would not be the time to address old grevencies. This will be an opportunity for both leaders to meet the populace of each nation with a compassionate approach in quashing misunderstandings between the two nations. It is ok if one nation does not even recognize the other as a nation, but it is undeniable that each are “ One People” and the same people.
China and Taiwan must begin interacting together on humanitarian efforts in the region.
Consensual team building between China and Taiwan is essential part of this peace plan. China and Taiwan can begin to work together against the evils of the world such as slavery, human trafficking, child exploitation, piracy, world hunger and international organized crime. These are the true enemies of the “One People” , not each other. This team can do great things together and will come to relize that they need each other.
“The world wants China and Taiwan working together to bring peace to Asia and fight the evils of all mankind together.” Barry Donadio
It would be a benefit to all mankind to see the China Coast Guard and the Taiwan Coast Guard work together on an operation to take down criminal piracy networks in the South China Sea. What a powerful force they would both be during a rescue operation for anyone under duress on the high seas. The focus of all of these suggestion is for these nations to work together and live together and de-escalate friction.
Construction of the Peace Bridge and demilitarized zone
After building trust and understanding, these nations should move to phase two of the peace plan. Demilitarization of the Taiwanse Kinmen Islands and the entire Kinmen Island. In turn, China demilitarizes Xiamen areas immediately adjacent to Kinmen. Then the joint construction project of building a peace bridge from Taiwans largest Kinmen Island to Chinas mainland.
Both sides can benefit from tourism from each other in this venture. The initiative with the peace bridge is that both sides should focus on nothing but positive exchanges. Relaxed customs duties and immigration policies at the Peace Bridge should be granted. One day visas for both sides would be another great way for positive economic and emotional exchanges between people.
Build peace parks on both sides of the bridge. These can be a place where families from each side of the bridge and meet and spend time together.
The Peace Bridge concept can only work if both sides are doing the project with complete free will and not pressured to do so. It should be a leap of faith in each other and step towards everlasting friendship, cooperation and understanding.
Amnesty and healing must take place
A general amnesty and full pardons must be granted by Taiwan and China for the actions of both sides during the 1949 civil war in China. Even if there is no one left who could benefit from a pardon, both government’s should do it as symbolic gestures that will contribute to the healing process.
Both nations eventually need to meet to discuss misunderstanding and work on resolving their domestic dispute peacefully. Only through positivity can this be solved.
The United States and Japan should give space to China and Taiwan to heal during the sensitive dialogue and offer help in a supportive role.
Both China and Taiwan must have an examination of its own conscience.
China must ask itself “If Taiwan were attacked by a foreign nation or were under duress, would China help Taiwan? I believe the answer is“Yes”.
Taiwan must also ask itself “If China were attacked by a foreign nation or were under duress, would Taiwan help China? I believe the answer is “”Yes, but it depends on what country is attacking China?
But does it have to be so uncertain what Taiwan would do it this case. Can Taiwan consensually offer to help China no matter who attacks China. What about the United States? Would that mean if the United States attacked China, Taiwan would step in to help China? In theory yes or possibly yes, but this is not an issue because the United States will not attack China’s homeland. It may add to strategic ambiguity of the complex situation. Everyone protecting each other lessens the possibility for war.
The complexity of China first attacking the U.S. and then the U.S. attacks China in defense would certainly complicate this scenario. The likeliness of China’s military attacking the U.S. homeland is slim to none.
Joint air patrols of China and Taiwanese Air Forces
Both countries agree to conduct quarterly joint air patrols of China and Taiwan air space to maintain sovereign integrity of both nations and learn how to assist each other when needed. The civilian populace of both nations need to see these joint patrols to regain national pride and regain a rekindled hope for the future of “One People”.
Nor China or Taiwan gives up anything.
China needs to take to leadership role in this exchange but also a nurturing role. Both leaders must work for a consensual path forward. There is no loser in this peace plan, only two winners. This plan is a startpoint to what may become the greatest peace of our lifetime.
